Perfume Genius
Seattle-based solo artist Perfume Genius, the stage name taken by Mike Hadreas, is known for producing music that ranges from delicate piano ballads to glam rock stunners, poetically exploring topics such as sexuality, domestic abuse, and homophobia. After a stint in Williamsburg, Hadreas returned to his hometown outside of Seattle and began recording music in 2005. By 2008, he adopted his current moniker and started hosting his music and homemade videos online, which garnered the attention of UK indie band Los Campesinos!, who helped him get a deal with their label to release his first single, “Mr. Peterson,” in 2009.
